OGC Nice striker, Terem Moffi, has replaced the injured Victor Boniface in Nigeria’s final 25-man squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

On Monday, it was reported that Boniface would be withdrawing from the 2023 AFCON.

Boniface, a Bayer Leverkusen striker, suffered a groin injury in training that has ruled him out of the competition.

“Victor Boniface is out and Terem Moffi takes his place pending approval of CAF and concurrence of his club,” Super Eagles spokesman, Babafemi Raji said.

Raji later disclosed on Tuesday that “Terem Moffi confirmed as replacement for injured Victor Boniface. He will join the team in Cote D’Ivoire.”

Moffi made coach Jose Peseiro’s provisional 40-man list for the AFCON but he was not included in the final 25-man list that was released, losing out to Real Sociedad star, Umar Sadid and Boniface.

The OGC Nice striker has four goals in 14 appearances for the Super Eagles. He has struggled for form with Nice this season having scored just six goals and provided two assists in 16 Ligue 1 games.
