AAU ASUU demands payment of withheld staff salaries

Ambrose Alli University, Edo State.

We have no knowledge of staff deaths, AAU management declares
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma Chapter, yesterday, expressed worry over the continuous withholding of salaries of staff over ASUU’s national strike action between February 14, 2022, and October 16, 2022, that has remained unresolved in the university even when the Federal Government has started paying those salaries in federal universities.

In the statement signed by and Chairperson, Dr. Cyril Onogbosele, and Assistant Secretary of ASUU, AAU, Ekpoma, Dr. William Odion, the union said that it is sad that the university administration has denied the several deaths of academic staff recorded in the university in recent times, as a result of wicked denial of salaries of staff and its slavish policies.

According to the union, the media should ask the university administration to address the stoppage of salaries of some academic staff, selective payment of salaries, non-payment of outstanding /withheld salaries, stoppage of responsibility allowance (for office-holders), stoppage of yearly salary increments, stoppage of payment of excess workload arrears, non-issuance of pay slips and bastardisation of the statutory salary structure in the university.

Meanwhile, the management of AAU, Ekpoma, has condemned the outcry by the leadership of the ASUU, AAU chapter, over the death of scores of its members as a result of non-payment of salaries, saying the institution has no records of the demise of such staff.

The university’s Head, Corporate Communications and Protocol, Otunba Mike Aladenika, while dismissing ASUU position on the systemic decimation of AAU, urged ASUU’s AAU leadership to substantiate, with data, figures, time and the true circumstances surrounding the death of their supposed 25 members.
