Bullying: Bwala drags Lead British School to court, demands N500m damages

Lead British International School student, Namitra Bwala, has instituted a civil suit against the school, following the viral video released on the Internet a few weeks ago where she was seen being bullied by her fellow students.

The lawsuit with case number FCT/HC/CV/2341/24: Miss Namtira Bwala vs. Lead British International School Ltd was filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja by Deji Adeyanju and Partners.

It seeks damages against the school for failing in its obligation to provide a safe learning environment conducive to her. Bwala, in the suit, is praying the court to direct the school to pay her N500 million as general damages for breach of the duty of care it owes her, and its negligent conduct in failing to prevent the assault, torment, emotional distress, pain, trauma and breach of privacy she suffered while under the school’s custody and supervision.

She further requested an order directing the school to issue a public apology in two national daily newspapers. No date has been fixed for hearing.
