Calm in Kano as Shettima, Ganduje bury mothers-in-law

Kano State was a beehive of activities yesterday as the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, respectively, laid to rest their mothers-in-law, according to Muslim rites.

   
Shettima, who had left the Northwest security summit in Katsina State, touched down in Kano to attend the funeral prayer for his mother-in-law, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albishir. She passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 69, after a prolonged illness.
   
Earlier on arrival in Kano, the Vice President was received by the governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other top functionaries of the state government at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA).
   
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, described Albishir’s death as a great personal loss for the VP’s family.
   
The solemn event drew a large gathering of family members, friends and associates paying their final respects. Among them were Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf; acting governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; and Minister of State for Steel Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu.
   
National Assembly members, former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, along with several former deputy governors of Borno, were also in attendance at the funeral.
   
In a statement by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the President condoled with Shettima and his family over the passing of his mother-in-law. He described her passing as a deeply painful loss.

Also in Kano, the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero; Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; Kano South Senator, Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, and a ranking member of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, were among dignitaries who attended the funeral prayer for the mother-in-law of Ganduje, the immediate past governor of the state, on Monday.
   
The funeral prayer was led by the Imam of Ganduje’s residence mosque, Sheikh Auwalu Khalid, at Miyangu Road in Kano. The deceased, Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama, was the mother of Prof. Hafsat Umar Ganduje. Embattled 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Ahmadu Ado Bayero.
