CBN to unveil financial literacy curriculum in October

As part of renewed efforts to boost financial literacy among school children, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has promised to make the National Financial Literacy Curriculum available in October.

It explained: “As far as the curriculum is concerned, we are at the draft stage, and by October 2024, we hope to have ready the final copy of the National Financial Literacy Curriculum to be included in our secondary schools’ curriculum nationwide.”


Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, Philip Ikeazor, gave the assurance yesterday at the opening of the Financial Literacy Fair in commemoration of the 2024 Global Money Week celebration in Abuja.

Represented by Head of Consumer Education and Evaluation Division of the CBN, lawal Lanre, he also revealed that since 2012, financial literacy campaigns have recorded 64 per cent success rate.

The celebration was themed: “Project your money, secure your future.”

Earlier in his opening remarks, Director of Consumer Protection, Habib Amina, GMW, as a global awareness, seeks to educate young people from an early age on the importance of having the right knowledge or attitude and behaviour necessary to make sound financial decisions, and ultimately, achieve financial well-being for the future.

Represented by Acting Director, Nuhu Othnie, Amina recalled: “The GMW campaign started in 2012, and has reached over 60 million children in 176 countries. This year is the 12th edition, and it speaks to the importance of distinguishing between your needs and wants, money, management fraud and scam, and investing to enable you, our young ones have a financially secure future.”
