No Fewer than I,OOO residents of lkorudu Local Council recently benefitted from gas cylinders and bags of rice given to them by the Council Chairman, Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina.
Addressing the people at the Council Secretariat in Lagos, he said the gesture was to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
He revealed that lkorudu Local Council partnered with Smart Gas to provide the cylinders, adding that it was a step towards a more convenient, healthier and environmental- friendly cooking solution as well as to reduce health risks associated with smoke.
Adesina assured them that the distribution would go round the people because it came in batches.
The council boss concluded that his administration had previously distributed food items and gave scholarships, and grants to deserving beneficiaries.
The Chief Executive Officer of Smart Gas, Dr. Yinka Opeke, said the use of firewood and charcoal for cooking did not only impact our environment negatively but also affected our health, especially the women and children.
“As a nation, we face different environmental challenges that constantly threaten our living conditions or livelihood as a people,” she said.
She disclosed that Smart Gas promoted the use of cooking gas as a safer alternative to kerosene, firewood and charcoal and to educate the people on the importance of a cleaner and healthier environment for the society.
Princess Adebukola- Iya Loja lkorudu central appreciated the government and council for gesture because different associations of the market, artisans, traders and others were beneficiaries.
She appreciated the gesture and commitment to giving back by the council and ensuring the dividends benefits the grassroots.
