Court remands six over possession of dangerous weapons

A Magistrate’s Court sitting at Tinubu, Lagos, yesterday, remanded six men in Ikoyi Correctional Facility over allegations of conspiracy, threat to kill and possession of dangerous weapons.


Chief Magistrate B. A. Sonuga remanded the defendants pending the perfection of their bail.
They are Sunday Olabayo, 48, Lawal Ibrahim Adefemi, 33, Gbenga Demurin, 52; Idowu Mujaheed, 40; Samsudeen Oluwo, 50 and Dare Majekodunmi 40.

The defendants’ remand followed their plea of not guilty to the charges brought against them by officers of Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID), Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos.

Prior to their arraignment, the prosecuting counsel, Morufu Animashaun from the legal department of ForceCID, told the court that the defendants on July 8, conspired among themselves and invaded Eyin- Osa Resettlement Scheme at llamijia, Epe, Lagos.

Animashaun told the court that the defendants, who were armed with dangerous weapons, threatened to kill one Saheed Abdullahi, forcefully entered the resettlement scheme and attempted to forcefully take over the entire community.

He further told the court that the defendants, on the said day, demolished and destroyed the existing perimeter fence of the land situated at the Resettlement Scheme, belonging to one Saheed Abdullahi without his consent

He said their offences contravened the provisions of sections 411, 232 and 339(1) of the Criminal Law of Ch.C17, Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State 2015, as well as section 3 of the Lagos State Properties Protection Law, 2016.

After their plea, Animashaun asked the court for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the suspects till the determination of the charge against them

In his response, the defendants’ counsel, Abayomi Omotubora, orally applied for their bail, which was granted.

The court granted them bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties, who are residents in Lagos.

The Chief Magistrate also ordered the sureties to provide evidence of three years tax payment, and that they must have their addresses verified.

He subsequently adjourned the matter to August 23, 2023, for mention.
