Founder and Group Managing Director of SystemSpecs Holdings Limited, John Obaro, has charged universities and students to adapt to a new style of leadership.

In his lecture at the matriculation ceremony of Trinity University titled: ‘Raising a new generation of leaders in a digital age: The role of Nigeria Ivory Tower,” Obaro stressed the need for students and tertiary institutions to change from traditional to new age leadership.

According to him, traditional leadership has reached its limit, hence the need to consider technological leadership to improve the system.

“New generation of leaders are required. A lot has changed and we need to move and align with the change. We must prepare for a world where we live side by side with robots. Therefore, we must improve communication, conversation, persuasion and collaboration,” Obaro said.

He advised the students to focus and equip themselves to become effective leaders, and urged institutions to help students sharpen their digital skills to become digital leaders.

Obaro urged the school to review and revamp the curriculum, strengthen research capabilities and partner with industry stakeholders.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, said about 411 fresh students were admitted for the 2022/2023 academic session.

Ayo said at inception, in the 2018/2019 session, the school matriculated just 13 students, but has grown over time.

He appreciated parents who believed in the university without despising its humble beginning.

The Pro-chancellor, Samuel Olatunji, said the new students must be deliberate to fully absorb all the university has to offer.

Olatunji enjoins them to have a clear vision and definite goals, invest on time wisely, work hard and be diligent.

“The period of the next four to six years is therefore, an adventure in capacity building, where an array of curriculum, facilitators, processes, practices, assessments and adjustment would be deployed to prepare you for a life of impact, meaning, success and fulfilment that every normal person desires,” he declared.
