Ensure value for money on projects, Lagos tells contractors, officials

Lagos State government has tasked contractors and officers responsible for project, programme planning, and execution across ministries, departments and agencies to commit and ensure that the state government realises value for funds expended on projects, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Lagos State.


In his keynote address at the one-day monitoring and evaluation stakeholders’ forum, themed, unfreezing the path to precision in project documentation and valuation processes, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, said that now is the moment to collectively capitalise on emerging opportunities in an ever-evolving global landscape to ensure sustainable projects are executed.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Ibrahim Amodu Obajomo, he said: “The outcomes of today’s deliberations will further ensure that, through our teamwork and dedication, the state government realizes value for funds expended on projects, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Lagos State.

“The challenges and potential solutions identified during this forum will serve as a roadmap for stakeholders across the state, facilitating seamless monitoring and evaluation processes,” George stated.


In his welcome address, the permanent secretary of ministry of economic planning and budget, said that the ministry recognises the significance of deriving value from government expenditures on impactful policies, programmes, and projects.

“Therefore, it is imperative to uphold internationally accepted best practices and adhere to Standard Operational Procedures (S.O.P) to ensure quality service delivery.

“The insights gained from today’s discussions will serve as a roadmap for seamless monitoring and evaluation processes across the State. Together, let us harness emerging opportunities in our rapidly changing global landscape to build a more prosperous Lagos State.”

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Assistant to Governor on Project Implementation and Monitoring, Segun Sanwo-Olu, said that projects must be planned, implemented and executed to stand the time of time.

He stated that the process is as important as the outcome of the projects. He added that projects executors must learn from past mistakes to ensure project executed are sustainable.
