Ethnic Youth Leaders have expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, and the company’s Executive Vice President (Downstream), Adedapo Segun, for their dedication to resolving the recent fuel supply disruptions in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by their spokesperson, Malam Kabiru, and deputy acting president, NG Emmanuel, the youth leaders commended Kyari for his commitment to ensuring downstream energy stability, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.

They criticised the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for calling for Kyari’s resignation, pointing out that the NNPCL CEO has been working tirelessly to ensure an adequate fuel supply despite various challenges.

The Ethnic Youth Leaders urged NANS to reconsider their stance, reminding them that the Kyari-led NNPCL is actively addressing the situation and has assured Nigerians that the ongoing fuel scarcity and queues would be resolved by Wednesday. They noted that Kyari is not complacent and is taking concrete steps to tackle the distribution issues.

The youth leaders reiterated that the three-day disruption in distribution was due to logistical issues, which have now been resolved. However, they pointed out that some unscrupulous businesspeople have taken advantage of the situation to inflate prices.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has confirmed that NNPCL’s intervention will lead to the disappearance of fuel queues, with more petrol becoming available for distribution, ensuring stability in the supply chain.

The Ethnic Youth Leaders called on NANS to support NNPCL’s efforts and recognise the dedication of Kyari and his team in overcoming the fuel supply challenges.
