Governors, LG chairmen  responsible for citizens’ woes – Rivers APC Chairman

Some state governors and their respective local council chairmen are responsible for the current economic woes facing Nigerians, the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Okocha, has alleged.

According to Okocha, the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government has distributed an unprecedented amount of money to the governors and local council chairmen.

He alleged that some governors and local council chairmen criminally amassed the wealth for themselves at the detriment of their people. He wondered why Nigerians were blaming the President for the current economic woes in the  country.

Okocha said: “I was in the cabinet of Rivers State between 2012 and 2015. During this period of subsidy regime, Rivers State never received up to N7 billion on a good month. We left the coffers of the state very empty.”

He criticised the governors for using state resources to sponsor frivolities, citing a recent protest organised by women groups in the state under the aegis of Women Unite for Sim.

He charged the governors, specifically the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to think outside the box to better the lot of the people and de-emphasise his alleged sponsorship of street protests.
