In line with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 on providing inclusive and sustainable education, the National President CMS Girls’ Grammar School Akoka Alumnae Association, Adeola Adetugboboh has urged Lagos State government to appoint competent and professionals to manage the education sector.

Speaking at the alumnae first Annual General Meeting (AGM), Adetugboboh said: “We need someone to maintain the standards that was laid down by former Deputy Governor, Sarah Sosan. She was coming from the background of education and she understood the needs of the students.”

She added: “It was during Babatunde Fashola’s administration that the laboratories were renovated. Those that know more about education should be appointed in order for government to achieve their goals.”

Commenting on the purpose of the AGM, she disclosed the essence was to review their achievements and look forward to making progress, get more members, unite and make the school great.

She said: “When we first launched our alumnae on May 21, 2022, we had a simple but ambitious goal of creating a vibrant and engaging community of alumnae who could support one another, give back to our Alma Mater and make positive impact in the world.

“I am proud to say that we have made significant progress towards achieving that goal. Together, we have organised reunions, networking events and service projects that have brought us together and help us stay connected to our roots.”

Expressing optimism, she added: “I’m very confident that the foundation is strong and we are going to achieve that task. We have given the school hundreds of desks and benches; renovated classrooms; donated public address systems; provided school signage and renovated the school building.

We’ll be there for the next executive and whatever project they want to do, we will support them.”

She advised the students to remain focused because if they are focused, the sky will be their limits.

Also, National Public Relations Officer of the association, Esther Obule-Adebote revealed that various programmes were organised for the students in the area of health.

She listed some of the programmes to include topics around mental health, breast cancer, and menopause, among others.
