Have confidence in God – Part 1

Pastor Lawrence Achudume

To have confidence is to believe in the person your confidence is placed upon that he will do what he says he will do. To have confidence in a person, removes the strain, pains of achieving something from you to the one you have confidence in. It removes hypertension, fear of failure, doubt and disappointment from you as you put your confidence in the subject matter.

God is a promise keeper and we should put our confidence in Him. He is more than capable and worthy. He is not a man that He should lie or change His promises for any reason. It may be delayed in our understanding of time, but He won’t change. We should have confidence in Him because He knows and holds tomorrow. In fact, He is already in tomorrow. (Hebrews 13:8). We have not seen tomorrow neither have we been there nor do we know what it holds for us and we do not know also what our distractors or enemies have planned, but He knows. Therefore we should trust the one who knows. As 1Corinthians 2:9 confirms: “But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

Only Jehovah God knows the things for you. There have been tough times and on several occasion, Heaven has kissed the earth and caused several changes that should inspire us for greater achievement. “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.” Psalms 44:1-3

But we should trust God to do it in us and through us in our day. Apostle Paul said: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” (Philippians 3:13)

There is a future in our future. God is doing a new thing. He is going to move us forward in a marvellous way that fear will come upon men. Isaiah 43:19 says: “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” In Acts 26:27, Apostle Paul said to King Agrippa, “King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets?…” Jesus said to Mary and Martha: “And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” John 11:26

Whenever things seem to go wrong, when you cannot help yourself or the situation, have confidence in God because He is about to show you His glory, your next level. John 11:40 says: “Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?” He allows things to happen that He might manifest Himself. Don’t let your situation make you lose your confidence, which has great recompense. Let it move you to trust Him the more. After all, you cannot help yourself or the situation, but He can.

In John 9:3, “Jesus answered, neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”
Concerning Brother Lazarus, his sickness and death, Jesus saw it differently from the view of others. When Jesus heard that of it, he said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby,” John 11:4.

God did wonders in the past. We have heard testimonies of His greatness, but how God will do it depends on your confidence, your belief, and your absolute confidence in Him. The devil is always scared of a man that is bold and have confidence in God. The three Hebrew children demonstrated this and at the end, were promoted and not defeated. “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the King, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up,” Daniel 3:16-18.

These are bold statements that can better be imagined. God protects, guards, guides those who are confident in Him. The same King Nebuchadnezzar who hitherto was furious and had threatened death to them changed his mind and called them “…servants of the Most High God…” Daniel 3:26 says: “Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, ye servants of the Most High God….”

Then the King promoted them. Confidence in God gives you promotion not only in your business or career, but before men. “Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon,” Daniel 3:30.
