*‘He’s an imposter, trustees to sue him’
The factional President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ibrahim Kabir, has said Nigeria will have to import food to crash prices of food commodities in the market.
Ibrahim, while reacting to a move by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to release 300,000MT of maize into the market to cash the price of the grain, said the country did not have enough grain reserves.
He said: “Even if you release 20,000 metric tonnes, it will not do anything. But as far as we are concerned, it’s wishful thinking that the price of maize will crash.”He added that reasons why food prices would not crash anytime soon include the naira to dollar exchange rate.
MEANWHILE, the national leadership of AFAN has allegedly suspended the Alhaji Farouk Mudi-led National Caretaker Committee, describing the committee’s activities as illegal and unconstitutional.
At its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, Kabir said there was no provision in the constitution of the association for the setting up of a national caretaker committee.
It would be recalled that AFAN has been embroiled in leadership crisis following the appointment of Mudi-led National Caretaker Committee to midwife the activities of AFAN.
HOWEVER, the Board of Trustees has put a disclaimer on Kabiru to stop parading himself as the president of the association.
The Farouk Mudi-led faction, who disclosed this to The Guardian, affirmed that the board of trustees to the association had vowed to take legal actions against Ibrahim if he parades himself as AFAN president.
He explained that Ibrahim’s five-year tenure elapsed eight months ago, and rather than conducting a new election, he was still parading himself as the president. He said: “The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Muritala Nyako, had then selected him after the tenure of Ibrahim elapsed to lead a caretaker committee pending the time a fresh election is conducted.”
