Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University Chapter on Monday vowed that the ongoing industrial action by lecturers would not be called off until all unpaid salaries are settled.

This was made known by the Prof. Valene Obinna, Media Director, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Imo State University Chapter.

Obinna said that the union carried out the action to protest non payment of March and April salaries of its members as well as other issues which the union had been agitating for.

Obinna, who stated that the strike was not political, explained that its timing had nothing to do with the just concluded elections.

However, the University Public Relations Officer, Mr Raphael Njokuobi, said the issue of unpaid salaries was not peculiar to the state.

A final year student of the Department of Microbiology, Mr Obinna Nwaobia said that lectures had yet to commence before the commencement of the strike.

He said that seminars for final year students which were scheduled to begin this week had been cancelled as a result of the strike.

Another student Marylin Izukanne of the department of Mass Communication said she had just returned from home before the strike started.
