Minister tasks college graduands on entrepreneurial skills

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu

Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has charged 6,195 graduating students of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, to strive to contribute meaningfully to societal development.

He said: “It is hoped that many of you would consider this feat a springboard to the next level of life accomplishment in pursuit of higher education or establishment of business ventures where you would apply entrepreneurship skills, which you learned during your study.

“Today marks the beginning of a new phase of life. You have been confirmed, certified and found worthy in character and learning to be admitted into the circle of scholars as holders of NCE and PDE.” He lauded the governing council of the College for effective guidance and oversight, which he said, had taken the school to an enviable height.

Meanwhile, congratulating the graduands, Chairman of the Governing Council of the College, Adamu Muazu, described intellectual capacity as a great asset.
Also, the Provost of the College, Dr. Ademola Wahab Azeez, said the graduands had satisfactorily met the conditions for the award of the degrees.

He said there are 2,887 NCE candidates, 2,920 Distant Learning Programme (DLP) and 388 Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) making a total number of 6,195.

Azeez said five sets of students combined from 2017/2018, 2018/2019; 2019/2020; 2020/2021; and 2021/2022 academic sessions in all the programmes run by the college full time.

Speaking on the outstanding performances by some students for the five sessions, the provost said prizes and awards would be presented to those that excelled in their courses of study.

At the ceremony, prizes and awards by private individuals, departments, schools, institutions and organisations were awarded to the best outstanding students.

The provost said it is remarkable that all the best-graduating students are females and this has spurred some organisations and well-meaning individuals in the College and alumni to encourage them through cash gifts.
