NAFDAC seizes fake “Tomato Rice”, penalises company

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Tuesday seized 79 bags of counterfeit “Tomato Rice” during a recent operation in Maiduguri, Borno State.

NAFDAC said its surveillance team discovered Triovee Limited illegally packaging raw rice into unauthorised branded bags at their facility on Ahmadu Bello Way.

“A total of seventy-nine (79) unsealed bags of 50 kg of rice were placed on hold by the NAFDAC team due to this violation,” NAFDAC said.

The agency stated that its team then evacuated the branded bags, releasing 79 unsealed fake branded Tomato Rice, valued at approximately N5,135,000, from hold.

It was, however, noted that Triovee Limited has been penalised in line with NAFDAC’s regulations.

“This action underscores NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding consumer health and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards in the food industry.

“Such interventions are crucial in maintaining the integrity of food products and protecting consumers from potential hazards associated with unauthorised packaging and distribution.”
