NASU laments, says govt deceived members several times

Unions block UNILAG gate as strike continues

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), yesterday, alleged that the Federal Government had deceived the union severally by not paying their withheld salaries.

Chairman, NASU branch of College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Bukayo Ayantoye, stated this in his reaction to the seven-day warning strike that the union began on Monday, which had paralysed activities at the university’s college of medicine.

Ayantoye, who urged the Federal Government to pay the withheld salaries of the workers, said: “This is a situation where you have four different unions in the university system and all the unions went on strike in 2022 and the Federal Government decided to pay only the lecturers, leaving our members out of the process. It is uncalled for.”

Also, the treasurer of the branch union, who lamented that the government had only been operating one-sided policy, stressed that NASU, being the backbone of the university system, should not be neglected and abandoned.

Meanwhile, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists, UNILAG branch, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest in front of the institution’s gate.

The protesters, with various placards, blocked vehicular movement and stopped the free flow of traffic in the institution.
