NSCDC arrests seven suspects over sexual assault, human trafficking

Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested seven suspects over offences bordering on child defilement, harmful traditional practices, and human trafficking at different locations in the state.

The Commandant, Augustine Padonu, identified the arrested as: Osuolale Ayodele, 53; John Umeh, 64; Eyeke Chimechie, 45; Mutiu Alabi, 45; and Tomiwa Olusegun, 35.

According to him, Ayodele, a native of Osun State and resident of the Olunloyo area, Ibadan, was arrested for defiling a 13-year-old minor on January 26, while Umeh, a native of Abia State and resident of the Monatan area of Ibadan, was arrested for having sexually assaulted his step daughter since she was seven years old until she turned 16.

He said Chimechie, a native of Ebonyi State and resident of the Bestway area of Ibadan, was arrested for impregnating a 17-year-old girl and subjecting her to domestic violence; while a native of Ibadan, Adedoja Lukman, 72, and a native of Kobomoje Compound, Ibadan was arrested for engaging in harmful traditional practices including genital mutilation.

Padonu said the two other suspects, Olusegun, an indigene of Ile Ajiroba Isale, Oyo town, Oyo State, and Eritobiloba Rasidi, a native of Ibadan, Idi Omo Compound, were arrested on February 22, at Ojoo Motor Park while attempting to traffic four girls to Libya.

According to him, the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and would be charged to court as soon as the investigation is completed. He added that the command would continue to work tirelessly to combat human trafficking and all forms of violence against women and children.
