Former Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, who was sentenced by the Federal High Court in Jos, on Tuesday, to three months, with an option of N1 million fine, is set to appeal the judgment.
She is approaching the appellate court with two others, Raymond Dabo and Leo Jiltung, who got similar sentence on the same matter.
They were released after paying the fine the same day.
However, after studying the judgment, counsel to Ochekpe, Sunday Oyewale, and that of Dabo and Jiltung, Jang Zi, both believed that there was a lacuna in the judgment, claiming that the trial judge used the wrong application in handling the case at hand.
At the time of filing this report yesterday, they had not agreed on the day of the appeal.
The Guardian gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also fumed at the judgment.
The trio had been standing trial for the past years on charges bordering on conspiracy and money laundering. They were alleged to have violated the law when, during President Goodluck Jonathan’s regime, they took N450 million campaign fund to the party secretariat to distribute in cash.
