Ohanaeze crisis: We are ready to abide by recommendations of Igbo bishops, says faction

Chidi-Ibeh

Chidi Ibeh-led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, said it was ready to abide by recommendations and reports of the Conference of Igbo Bishops and Archbishops on the crisis rocking the group, urging the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu faction to do the same.

In a statement, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, the Secretary General of the Ohanaeze faction, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that they were only fighting irregularities in the system, to return Ohanaeze to Ndigbo, devoid of external manipulation and governors’ control.

He noted that they would publish the Igbo bishops’ recommendations and reports for public consumption so that Ndigbo,at home and in the Diaspora, will know the truth and leverage Iwuanyanwu’s faction to accept and abide by the reports.

The statement reads: “To put the record straight, Ohanaeze held its election on January 9, 2021, at Brown and Brown Centre, Enugu, based on the Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s Constitution, Articles 11, 12 and 13, with the nine-man electoral panel, led by Dr. Richard Ozobu and Dr. Precious Uzoma.

“Certificates of Return were issued as evidence of the election to the 24 new members elected.

“It’s laughable for a faction, which was rejected by Ndigbo to deploy unconstitutional means to blackmail, have access to the Presidency and use Ohanaeze brand name to mortgage the destiny of Igbo and future of their unborn generation.

“We urge the general public to disregard any news emanating from Iwuanyanwu until the Igbo bishops’ report is fully implemented.”

The group noted that it suspects that the Iwuanyanwu faction is afraid of the bishops’ recommendations and report, which, it said, would restore peace and harmony to the apex Igbo Socio-cultural organisation.
