Ohanaeze urges Tinubu to implement 1970’s 3Rs pact

Chidi-Ibeh

The faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by Chidi Ibeh, yesterday, urged President

Bola Tinubu

to use the 54th anniversary of the defunct Biafra to implement the 1970 agreement of Reconstruction, Reconciliation and Rehabilitation (3Rs) between the Eastern region and the Federal Government.

The group noted that the implementation of the agreement will not only liberate and open the Eastern corridor for economic development but will also end the problem of insecurity ravaging the zone.

In a statement, in Abakaliki, the Secretary General of the Ohanaeze faction, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, commended the Federal Government’s efforts towards reconstructing federal roads with high-quality cement technology. Isiguzoro appealed for comprehensive reconciliation and sustainable rehabilitation of the Southeast.

He said that was the expectation of Igbo from the President, as it would not only address the current insecurity challenges in the region, but also lay the foundation for its prosperous future.

Isiguzoro noted that Ndigbo are still traumatised by the nightmares and horrific killings of over two million Igbo, mostly women and children, resulting from the economic policies and military assaults during the Biafran war.

According to Ohanaeze, Ndigbo remain hopeful that Tinubu, as a leader known for his commitment to justice and fairness, will champion the cause to end the war and bring lasting peace, reconciliation and development in the Southeast.

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost socio-cultural organisation, advocating for the interests of Igbo people, calls on Tinubu and the All Progressives (APC)-led Federal Government to officially end the war against the Igbo on the 54th anniversary of Biafra war, which ended on January 15, 1970.”

“The implementation of the 2014 Constitutional conference and the restructuring proposals, put forward by the APC committee, led by former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, had been disregarded.

“Furthermore, the granting of pardons to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, and Biafra agitators, who were genuinely fighting against previous governments’ untold persecution, is yet to be realised.”
