Oni extols Aluko’s virtues

Professor Duro Oni

The former Chancellor, University of Lagos and President, Ijesha Society in Lagos, Prof. Duro Oni, has urged Nigerians, especially the youths, to be courageous in the face of different challenges confronting the country.

He also called for the emulation of courageous Nigerians that rose to stardom like Sir Olatunde Ishola Aluko, who as a role model at the age of 85, is still waxing strong despite different challenges he waded through in life before being an achiever.

Oni made the pronouncement yesterday at MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, as the reviewer of Aluko’s biography, the event that drew a lot of dignitaries, including former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Akin Aduwo, and former Health Minister, Adelusi Adewuyi, among others.

The former chancellor, who described the 500-page biography as classic with its robust and rich illustrations, said it is a book that should be read by everyone desirous of getting to the top.

Chairman on the occasion, Dr. Oluyomi Finnih, described Aluko as his childhood friend who right from the beginning of his life displayed the characteristics that led him to stardom.

“He has always been a personality with quality traits and a professional to the core, who is also very religious,” he said.

The author, Aluko, said he was inspired to write the book to help his children who were all born in Lagos, schooled in Lagos with many of them having their career in Lagos to know that they have their town of origin in Lagos, in addition to the lessons contained in the book.

“No doubt, it is a worthy legacy that put the story of my life in the right perspective.

“However, I ascribe everything I have achieved to the grace of God and His power” he said.

He commended the publisher of the book, Dare Babarinsa, for showcasing his expertise during the perusal of the scripts and has made the book to be one that would be desirous of reading by everyone.

Babarinsa described Aluko as a lucky man with a lot of experience to be tapped from. He, therefore, appealed to Nigerians to put down the story of their lives like Aluko to help the future generations.
