Oyebanji denies rift with Senate Majority Leader

Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji

• Says political future in hand of God
• ‘Why we re-ordered supplementary budget’

Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, at the weekend, said there was no rift between him and the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele. He said those postulating that he and Bamidele would soon clash would be disappointed.

Oyebanji, who spoke during a thanksgiving service held at First Baptist Church, Ikogosi-Ekiti, to mark the 90th birthday celebration of his father, said he has no enemy to fight and that God would determine his political future. He, therefore, urged the people to stop speculating any war between “friends and brothers.

“The two of us are first and foremost friends and brothers. We believe in God as the sole determinant of the future and we are also highly experienced politicians who have committed our political future in the hands of God. So, stop speculating about any war between us.

“God is the Alpha and Omega of human beings. He does things at His own will. God is the decider of our fate. I want to tell you clearly that nothing can separate me from Senator Bamidele. We have built a strong relationship over the years, so, politics can’t separate us.”

Meanwhile, Bamidele has said that the 10th National Assembly reordered the supplementary budget earlier passed by the past administration to provide palliatives and other pressing needs of the people.

The Senate Leader, who spoke on how the supplementary budget would benefit Ekiti State, said: “Some of the new projects that were approved would be in overall best interest of Ekiti people.

“One of them was the N2 billion that was approved for the construction of Iyin-Ilawe-Ekiti Road, which we believe, will not only connect the two communities, but also connect Ekiti Central Senatorial District with Ekiti South Senatorial District.

“Recently, Federal College of Education was approved for Ilawe-Ekiti. The road will also serve the purpose of trying to open up the community to make life easier even for that campus. The other projects approved in the budget were the N1 billion for construction of inner roads in Ado-Ekiti and another N1 billion for construction of inner roads in Ijero-Ekiti.

“I want to say that these are all parts of the extension of the infrastructural development drives of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. He met with all of us and gave us list of projects that were of utmost concern to him.”

He further said that the supplementary budget was passed and approved for President Bola Tinubu to enable him to provide palliatives for Nigerians to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal and address other nation’s economic challenges.
