Pappy Mufasa’s ‘High Sensation’ EP, beautiful, gripping work of art

By the time the last second of the opening song raced to the end, I already liked the song. I knew I had to check the artiste out, perhaps, take a detour to his last two released songs. As expected, they made it hard to change my decision. I continued the new love by checking him out on Instagram. The 40 posts on his page were all about his music, whether he is waxing his vocal on the record or making a music related post. That’s Pappy Mufasa.

The Lagos State based Afrobeats singer’s new project ‘High Sensation’, (April 26, 2024) marks his debut extended play. His oldest song on Spotify was released in the year 2022. The collaborations are sparse, Mufasa tends to leverage more on his sonic strength.

A hard hitting drum herald the title track, with support from singer, Orpheors, Pappy Mufasa led the listeners through his state of mind. The pressure that comes with making it out of trenches. Most listeners would gladly relate with the themes of this song. Mufasa brilliantly uses a lot of symbolisms in this song, some of them might be difficult for the layman.

Pappy Mufasa music pulsates with rhythm, personal stories and tribulation. He spices this on this EP, not necessarily too obvious yet you could feel the state of consciousness he must have been to craft such a tune. A track like ‘Nawa Oh’, is a typical example of this, with a poignant backup singer, Pappy Mufasa proudly sings from the soul. It is a call and response type of song.

Third track ‘I need this money ’ is a joyous ode to hustling for the money. The trapping synths and an infectious beat welcomes us into Pappy Mufasa and Tiphzy state of mind. The Drill based track is hinged on infectious soul sound, backed with neat backup vocals.

On ‘Ninu Aparte’, Pappy Mufasa takes the party turn as he mixes Afrobeats and Fuji to score up a potential hit. Like expected, the reverb, back up singer all come out so well.

‘Wait’, ranks as the most emotional and confessional track on this EP. A dash between R&B and Dancehall. It finds the singer in a vulnerable state as he sings about his girl, the way she makes him feel and more.

Pappy Mufasa raps, sings, beautifully channels his emotion into song. High Sensation EP will gladly introduce him to new fans and perhaps, get the highly anticipated industry run he has always wished for.
