A Nigerian pastor has announced to his congregation that he is temporarily suspending the collection of offerings due to the economic challenges facing the country.

In a viral video on X, the pastor also called on other pastors to stop collecting offerings for the time being.

The Guardian reports that following the announcement of the removal of fuel subsidy by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his inauguration on May 29, 2024, prices of goods and services have witnessed an unprecedented rise with Nigeria’s BusinessDay reporting a doubling in the prices of garri, noodles and other household commodities.

“We will stop collecting offering for now because of the situation of the country. For now we are pending the offering,” he told his church members.

“All pastors should take note, we should not be collecting offering money for now because someone who spent N1000 to come to church, paid offering, it’s possible the person will walk back home.

“If you don’t donate to pastors it doesn’t mean pastors would not eat. Come and serve your God and go home, until petrol comes down we will not be collecting offerings because it is not easy.”
