The Police in Lagos, yesterday, handed over two suspected drug dealers to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos.

Also, delivered to NDLEA were 10 bags of Cannabis sativa, one Toyota Sienna Space Bus with registration number: Lagos KJA 118 HV.

The suspects: Fidelis Otiba, 49, and Chukwuma Kennedy, 50, were arrested on July 12, by operatives along Mushin-Isolo road.

Spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, during the ceremony, said the arrest was a result of cooperation from the public.

Hundeyin sought further cooperation with the community in the provision of information to end the menace of drug abuse in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

He said: “We are happy that 10 bags of this hard drug is off the society and it won’t get to the hands of our vulnerable youths.

“We promised the public diligent investigation and prosecution, which we have done. We deemed it necessary to handover the suspects and exhibits to the NDLEA. This shows the premium we place on inter-agency collaboration.

“We have a robust synergy in Lagos State because the menace of drug abuse is something we have to fight strongly and we are taking advantage of that to hand over the suspects.

“We assure Nigerians that we will not relent in combating the menace of drug abuse, so that it would not aid other criminal acts like cultism.”

On his part, Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Lagos, Zofun Joseph, said: “Today handover is to show the synergy between the NDLEA and the police, and to show the public that the war on drug trafficking and abuse is not a fight one agency can fight. Our children will suffer if we fail to fight the war.”

He lamented that lack of cooperation from the public has remained an obstacle to the fight against illicit drugs.
