Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, known by his stage name Portable, was released on bail on Wednesday after spending a night in police custody.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Portable’s release on Wednesday.

Portable was arrested on Tuesday in Abule Egba, Lagos, for allegedly refusing to pay the remaining balance on a ₦27 million G-Wagon he purchased from a car dealer.

The singer, following his release, has also released a song to tell his side of the story

Portable was reported to have only paid ₦13 million for the vehicle, with ₦14 million in balance.

In a viral video, Portable was seen scaling a gate after policemen approached him with an arrest warrant to follow them.

Another viral video, however, showed him being dragged, handcuffed, and wheeled by about four policemen into a waiting vehicle.

Hundeyin, however, stated that both the singer and the car dealer are expected to return to the police station for further discussions.

“He (Portable) has been released; he was granted bail on Wednesday to come back with the complainant later,” Hundeyin said.

“The outcome of that meeting will determine our next line of action.”

Following his recent ordeal, the singer released a song titled “Spider-Man,” which reportedly references the events leading up to his arrest.

Portable has also taken to social media to encourage his followers to trust in God.

However, it is important to note that this is not Portable’s first encounter with law enforcement. In April 2023, he was arrested and arraigned in Ogun State on charges of assault and theft at the Ifo Magistrate Court, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He was remanded in custody but was later released after meeting bail conditions.
