Shortage of naira affecting NDE training, DG laments

Director General of NDE, Abubakar Fikpo

Director General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr. Abubakar Fikpo, has lamented that shortage of new naira notes is adversely affecting 65 artisans under going training in Asaba, Delta State.

Fikpo said accessing the new notes in Asaba is problematic, especially as commercial banks were not dispensing the new notes to customers. Speaking at the commencement of training in Asaba, the DG urged trainees to take the training seriously, despite the cash crunch, and other social economic situation in the state.

Fikpo, represented by Acting Director of State, Mr. Sylvanus Onyeogo, said the training was part of the efforts by NDE to address business failures.

“Basic business training was designed by NDE to train artisans and school leavers on rudimentary aspects of business management skill.

“This was because being highly skilled in a vocation does not preclude a micro business operator from failure but with acquisition of business management skill, success is guaranteed.

“The training is part of efforts by the Directorate to address business failure created as a result of lack of managerial skills,” he said. The Head of Department, Small Scale Enterprises, Ms Chikodi Ike, commended the trainees for their doggedness in attending the training in spite of the scarcity of naira notes.

“It is not easy for you at this point in time, considering the economic situation in Nigeria,” she said.
