Umahi, monarch condemn Ebubeagu over alleged razing of houses, killing in Ebonyi

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, yesterday, condemned the killing of one Anyim Nnaogo and three others in Akaeze Community of Ivo Council by suspected members of the Ebubeagu Security outfit.

The governor also condemned the razing of no fewer than 12 houses, a fuel station and buses belonging to the Ivo Council Chairman, Ogbadu Onyebuchi and other valuable property worth millions of naira.


Umahi, who visited the community, ordered that anyone involved in the incident should be arrested and prosecuted.

Speaking to newsmen through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Francis Nwaze, he said he visited Akaeze for on the spot assessment and condemned the development in the viral video that resulted in killings, saying justice must take its course.

Reacting to the incident, the traditional ruler of Umuihe Community, Eze Umazi Ubani, condemned the killings, razing of houses and other valuable property in the community.


He revealed that the irate youths also attempted to burn his palace, but thanked the traditional rulers of Npu Community and security operatives, who rescued the situation.

MEANWHILE, the state Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected persons in connection with the killing and beheading of a member of Ebubeagu security outfit in the state.

The victim, identified as Sunday Nwafor, 30, was killed on Saturday night at Ekpelu Community in Ikwo Council of the state. The suspects stormed his house at night while he was asleep, shot him and beheaded him.


Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, Loveth Odah, said in Abakaliki, yesterday, that no fewer than two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The incident occurred in Ikwo Council and two suspects have been arrested, while the investigation is ongoing,” Odah said, describing the act as barbaric and inhumane.


“This is coming barely two weeks after we recorded another Ebubeagu incident, in which someone was killed in this form and was half burnt.

“The Commissioner of Police (CP) condemns the killing and vowed to do everything within the law to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” he said.
